Best of 2008/2009

Mr. Catt, Mr. McEwan and the leadership class would like to thank all the staff members that came out to assist with the RELAY. This event could not be run without your help. We especially appreciated the helpers who arrived at 4:00 am, when the organizers were not really able to function with any coherence.

This year the final totals are 31 survivors and 382 participants of which 112 were John McCrae students. The final total money raised this year was $60,101.05.

The students were awesome!

30-Hour Famine

Thank all the teachers who came out to supervise our recent very successful 30 hour famine event.

We could not have run it without these teachers volunteering their time. We had fifty-four students participate and we raised $2895.

All students invovled demonstrated exemplary behaviour. It was an awesome event.

Hoops for Heart 2009

Osgoode Township High School hosted their 9th Annual Hoops for Heart on March 11th. Fifty students were involved in the event and helped raise $1500 for the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Participants took part in a 3-on-3 competition as well as other basketball games and drills. Top 3 fundraisers were Kaitlin Winter, Connor Mcleod and Jeremy Keast.

Capital Region Music Festival Update

Thank you to the parents, volunteers, Osgoode Township H.S. and Castor Valley E.S. staff and students for their support leading up to and during the Concert and Jazz Band portions of the Capital Region Music Festival.

Recently, at Earl of March H.S., the concert band was faced with a tough adjustment by preforming on such a large stage in front of a tough panel of judges.

The Concert Band received two bronze and one silver rating which equalled an overall bronze. The adjudicator was particularly impressed with the instrumentation and ability of the musicians, given that the band was comprised of students from Grades Nine to Twelve.

A special thanks to percussionists Kim Carr, Michelle Halloran and Brad Lapensee for substituting into the Castor Valley concert band at the last minute.

The Jazz Band also received a bronze medal for its competitive performances.

Congratulations to all!

Grade 8's Visit OTHS

The Grade Eights from Metcalfe Public School and Castor Valley Elementary School came to Osgoode Township High School on Thursday, February 12th. They participated in a number of hands-on activities, in many different classrooms throughout the school, including Technology, Athletics, Arts and Sciences.

The Grade Eights had a lot of fun touring the school and eating a delicious lunch in the cafeteria.

Thanks for coming to visit us at OTHS. We hope to see you all again in Grade Nine!

Double Blue 2008

Osgoode Township High School recently honoured the students who excel in the various academic disciplines, by granting awards, which admit those students to the Double Blue Society.

Parents in attendance could not help showing their pride, and students received their awards with enthusiam at their sense of accomplishment.

The OTHS Band did a rousingly good job at entertaining all those in attendance. They are sounding better with each concert.

Mr. O'Meara enters Smash-up Derby

Rod O'Meara transferred to OTHS for this school year from the Ottawa Technical Learning Centre (OTLC). No sooner had he arrived, that he was thrust head first into preparations for entering a vehicle in the Smash-up Derby, held each year as part of the Metcalfe Fair.

Mr. O'Meara, together with his capable pit crew team, worked many long hours getting the derby car ready for competition. This year's car had a John Deere theme. The catch phrase was "Git-R-Done".

Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties, Mr. O'Meara's car died suddenly at the start of the derby. There is always next year.

Although there was a lot of disappointment with the way things turned out, Mr. O'Meara has had a great introduction to the OTHS community, and already established contacts with all the key students who will make this year's automotive repair program a big success.
