Guidance and
Counselling Services in each secondary school serve students,
parents and staff by providing educational, career and personal
counselling. Counsellors work with students individually, in small
groups, or in classroom groups.
EDUCATIONAL
COUNSELLING
We help students:
- select and schedule high school courses
- solve problems in learning, studying or organizing their time
- develop an educational plan appropriate to their abilities,
interests and goals
- consider educational opportunities after high school (both in
print and on computer)
- apply to colleges or universities
- find out about financial assistance, scholarships, and bursaries.
CAREER
COUNSELLING
We help students:
- explore possible occupation areas
- determine personal suitability for various occupations
- find sources of information about work
- find volunteer, part-time, full-time or summer work
- learn about employability skills
PERSONAL
COUNSELLING
We help students:
- understand relationships with others
- deal with personal concerns, whatever their origin
- talk over a problem and come up with alternatives
- find others, outside the Guidance Department, who might be of
further help.
Guidance is
pleased to once again host a variety of post-secondary information
seminars. Most have been scheduled during the noon hour in the
library. Special Event Permits are required for times other than
noon and will be announced in advance for students to come to
Guidance to complete this permit. Attendance will be posted for
teachers by the end of day for those sessions.
Potential
Grads are encouraged to take advantage of these visits by liaison
officers.
